Intro:
This world is full of impatient people. Life’s values are changing daily and the basic building blocks for relationships have been thrown away. Anger, rudeness and hate are the emotions of the day.
How can we to find peace, rest and hope in such an environment?
I believe David gives us the only reasonable answer in this brief Psalm. Here, you will find the promise of the constant care and loving protection of the Lord.
In order for this Psalm to speak deeply to you, here are some questions you need to ask yourself.
Let me read the same passage from the Living Bible.
(Psa 121:1 TLB) Shall I look to the mountain gods for help?
(Psa 121:2 TLB) No! My help is from Jehovah who made the mountains! And the heavens too!
(Psa 121:3 TLB) He will never let me stumble, slip, or fall. For he is always watching, never sleeping.
(Psa 121:4 TLB) Omitted in translation.
(Psa 121:5 TLB) Jehovah himself is caring for you! He is your defender.
(Psa 121:6 TLB) He protects you day and night.
(Psa 121:7 TLB) He keeps you from all evil and preserves your life.
(Psa 121:8 TLB) He keeps his eye upon you as you come and go and always guards you.
A. Your life will become energized with holy anointing when you turn your eyes away from the world and lift them toward God.
1. The world drags you down because it is earthy; sensual.
2. People, in general want their troubles to be your troubles.
3. Looking down is often a sign of defeat, depression, and failure.
4. Looking up pulls your attention away from the profane and helps you to focus on the Holy.
5. You are the only one who can look up for you.
B. When you truly understand what God will do for you, you will not be content to flounder in helplessness any longer.
1. You will give up your excuses.
2. You will stop blaming everyone else for your troubles.
3. You will no longer be a sucker for every trick of the devil.
4. Your life will become multi-dimensional.
C. Notice the promises of this Psalm.
1. v 2 - Your help comes from God who created heaven and earth.
2. v 3 and 4 - He will never let you stumble; He is vigilant in watchfulness.
3. v 5 - He is your protector; your defender
4. v 6 - He has a 24 hour watch on you.
5. v 7 - The Lord Himself keeps you from evil and keeps your life.
6. v 8 - He is always watching over you as you come and go, from day to day, all the time, forever!
D. These promises are true and trustworthy. As you can see, the emphasis is upon what God will do for you. If you will determine to look to Him, to place your trust in Him, to love and honor Him, He will do all of these things for you. He is your help if you will seek Him.
